About one week before his murder, Dr. Daniel Levi received a call from our bone marrow registry representative. She notified him that the recipient of his donation one year ago has recovered and wants to meet him. The date was set for after the holidays.

Dr. Daniel Levi

34-year old Dr. Daniel Levi was a surgeon at Soroka. He immigrated from Peru about seven years ago, was a father of two and spent every day saving lives. On October 7th, he was called to help the casualties at the Be’eri Clinic where he was murdered.

Scheduling Attempts

After that horrible Saturday, the Bone Marrow Registry tried to reach Dr. Daniel again in order to schedule the touching meeting, but there was no answer. When reviewing his details, we realized that he lived on Kibbutz Be’eri and could only imagine his fate. In light of the terrifying conclusion, the Registry contacted his wife, Lihi, to ask if she wishes to meet the person saved by her husband.

Dr. Daniel’s family meets Haim whose life was saved by Daniel

A few months ago, Lihi, her children and family came to our Registry office to meet Haim, the person whose life was saved by Daniel’s bone marrow donation. Haim contracted acute leukemia 18 months ago and required a bone marrow transplant to survive. “I was very sick, my blood was sick and I am healthy because your father gave me his blood and made me healthy”, Haim told Dr. Daniel’s young daughter.
