Ezer Mizion's Bone Marrow Donor Registry

Since its founding, the Ezer Mizion Bone Marrow Registry has grown to become the sixth largest registry in the world, saving thousands of lives. 

1996 - Moshe Eschayek’s search for a bone marrow match inspired the creation of the Ezer Mizion Bone Marrow Registry. His family’s donor drives recruited 6,000 potential donors but no match was found for Moshe. Following his passing, Moshe’s parents partnered with Dr. Bracha and Moti Zisser and Ezer Mizion to turn those donors into a registry, a legacy that continues to save lives worldwide.

2005 - A groundbreaking partnership with the IDF began, enabling every soldier to join the registry as part of their induction into the army.

2006 – The Brazil community sponsored lab testing for hundreds of new registry members, inspiring the concept of “Personal/Community Donor Registries”, dedicated in memory or in honor of loved ones, with updates on lives saved through their community registry.

2011 - The registry was granted WMDA accreditation as an official WMDA member, and an active recognized partner in the global stem cell transplant network.

2018 - Ezer Mizion opened an on-site stem cell collection center at its Oranit Cancer Support Center in Petach Tikvah, Israel’s first outside of a hospital.

2020 - During COVID-19, the registry team developed a safe stem cell transport model, that was later adopted by registries worldwide.

2021 - Launch of an on-site stem cell processing lab, improving efficiency and safety in collection and delivery of stem cell units for transplant.

2022 - The “Yeshiva Recruitment Project” began, reaching communities across Israel to ensure every sector has the opportunity to join the registry and enriching the registry with young donors.

Ezer Mizion recruits donors from all sectors of Israeli society, meeting local needs and serving as a vital resource for Jewish patients worldwide, with about 70% of stem cell units collected shipped abroad to serve patients globally. While global registries include millions of donors, only a small fraction are Jewish. Because of ethnicity and the unique genetic makeup of the Jewish population, a Jewish patient’s best chance for a match is often through Ezer Mizion.

Joining is simple and takes just a few minutes. All it requires is a cheek swab, which can be done at our headquarters in Petah Tikva - no appointment needed. You can also request a swab kit to be sent to your home. Once your sample is processed, you'll be added to the registry.

Since 2005, every recruit can join the registry as part of their induction process. These recruits make up a significant portion of new registry members each year. IDF recruits are a preferred donor population because they are young and healthy, already medically screened, represent a broad ethnic range and combinations, increasing the likelihood of matches and successful transplant outcomes.

In most cases, stem cell collection is done at Ezer Mizion’s on-site collection center in Petach Tikvah. The center provides a pleasant, non-hospital environment with a full medical staff and facilities to safely collect and process the stem cells and deliver them for lifesaving transplants.

You'll be invited for a comprehensive medical examination to confirm compatibility and ensure the donation is safe for both you and the patient. If everything checks out, we'll schedule your donation at our collection center. You won't be alone - our team will be with you throughout the process.
