How you can join the registry

Joining the registry is simple and done through a cheek swab. You can join by visiting our headquarters in Petah Tikva. No appointment needed. Or request a swab kit to be sent to your home.

Once your sample is processed, your details will be added to the donor registry. If a match is found between you and a patient in need of a stem cell transplant, we will contact you.

The stem cell donation process is similar to donating blood. The collection is done using a special machine and takes only a few hours. Stem cell collection is a well-established, medically supervised process. While some donors experience temporary discomfort, it poses no lasting risk to your health, and your stem cells will regenerate within 48 hours.

Who can join the registry?

 

You can join the registry if you are between 18 and 45 and in good general health. When joining, you’ll need to complete a registration questionnaire that includes details about your medical history to ensure eligibility.

 

If a match is found between you and a specific patient, you’ll be scheduled for an appointment at our center, where a comprehensive medical examination will be performed. This ensures that the donation is safe for both you and for the patient, and also checks for any changes in your health since you first joined the registry.

I’m already in the registry. Why haven’t you contacted me to donate stem cells yet?

 

The likelihood of finding a match between you and a patient in need of a transplant depends on many factors. Therefore, only a small percentage of potential donors in the registry will actually be called to donate. If and when you are found to be a suitable match for a patient, we will contact you right away.

Where can I go to join the registry, and when?

 

You can visit Beit Oranit, 40 Kaplan Street, Petah Tikva, Sunday through Thursday, between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

I don’t remember if I joined the registry at the IDF induction center. Should I check before providing a sample?

 

Yes, and it’s best to check in both ways - by ID number and by personal military number - to avoid unnecessary testing.
